Had made theses socks for D.H. but he complained that they were too tight around his toes and also too small so I gave them to my next door neighbour. I made them out of 8ply and 5ply yarn held together. It was a simple 2x2 rib and stockinette through out. I used size 3.75mm double point needles cast on 48 stitches and knitted them from the cuff down.
Even with two strands, 48 stitches is probably not enough for a man's foot. Have you ever tried socks from the toe up? That way, you get them wide enough when you start and then just knit till you run out of yarn. I can help you if you have skype.
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame, they look lovely socks, how about using a larger needles and they might come out slightly larger.

Using worsted weight and Size 3.75mm needles I've made socks for a man before with 48 stitches and they fit well. It was a beaded rib pattern though, so not sure how much of a difference that makes. Hope your neighbor enjoys them!
