Your Thoughts Please!

Was looking in Tatted Fashion Book by Teiko Fujito for a Table Runner that I am thinking of Tatting for my Mum. She loves the colour green so I picked out the Lizbeth #20 144 Leaf Swirl  for the rings and Ecru 603 for the chains for the Rectangular doily I picked out, it is on page 9 if you have the book. What do you think of the colour thread that I picked out? I have tried out the motif in a different colour to see how it would go, it is down there in the right hand corner. It was a quick and easy motif and one that can be done when I go out.

  7. These colors look very nice together. You definitely have a good eye. One caveat, though. Not every color looks good with every pattern, especially with variegated threads. I've noticed in particular with Lizbeth that the color changes are sometimes very long, so that small motifs don't necessarily show off the thread to its best advantage. I suggest you test tat the motif with the threads you're actually planning to use before you make a final decision. You could also try it both ways: vari rings and solid chains, and vice-versa, and see which you like best. If you're not sure, it's always better to try the possibilities before you start it "for real". :)

  8. I think I agree with Miranda. Test tat first. Perhaps the ecru chains will bring the pattern together. I like greens too. Your blinged shuttle is pretty.

  9. I think the green and ecru are wonderful together, but like Miranda, I believe you should test it out because of the variegated thread. If I am looking at it right, it should turn out a stripe, but I worry that the stripe effect will be lost if the ecru in the variegated thread blends and bumps too much with the solid ecru.

  11. Yes, green and ecru are wonderful choices! You will see what you think after you do a motif or two. Honestly, I think I would choose a solid green rather than the variegated, but test tatting will show you best. I think that choosing the right color combinations is sometimes the most difficult part of a pattern! I can't wait to see what you decide for this beautiful pattern. Regardless, your mum will LOVE it!
