Gina the Giraffe!!!!!

Meet Gina the Giraffe couldn't resist trying her out, she is one of Jane's patterns. One thing I have learnt is how to do split rings and they are pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Only thing I can not do is SCMR they have totally defeated me. I have tryed doing Janes instructions but I just cant get it oh well I think I need someone to show me how.

  1. Hi, Typs. To do an SCMR, start with 2 shuttles wound CTM (continuous thread method). Put a paperclip on the thread to keep the core thread from getting pulled all the way through. Begin tatting a chain with a loop of core thread at the beginning; the paperclip should be hanging from this loop. You can make normal rings as needed with shuttle 2. When the chain (which is really the SCMR) has the correct number of stitches, just pass shuttle 1 through the loop and remove the paperclip. Pull gently on the shuttle. Since shuttle 1 is the core thread and the loop is also core thread, pulling on the shuttle will cause the loop to draw up. Keep pulling until the loop is completely closed and the end of the chain has been brought around to meet the beginning. This completes the SCMR. I hope this makes sense without pictures.

  4. Don't give up! I remember being mystified for the longest time about mr's. They are, in reality, once you 'get it', not at all difficult. Very easy in fact. Keep reading the instructions till it clicks. It will. Goodness, if my dysexic brain finally figured it our, you will be able to, for sure!

If you can get hold of a GR-8 Shuttle Brothers book, they explain it every well. And, I think there is a good explanation , if I remember correctly on Georgia Seitz's site.

  5. Thanks for trying the giraffe. SCMR's are really only chains with rings thrown off! Honestly!

  6. I think you might be getting tripped up by how you make your initial loop. I always have to think about that. You can also find them on the Houtz brothers site:

Their links are over on the left.
